Supporting every pupil to succeed academically is a significant challenge for teachers and teaching assistants. The EEF's research evidence suggests there is a set of 5 core practices that can support all pupils, including those with SEND, to do just that.

Curriculum Intent

‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength… You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ (Mark 12:30-31)

As an inclusive Christian school, the School values everyone as a child of God and rejoices in its diversity. Our vision is to provide a happy, loving and nurturing environment where all have the confidence to make outstanding progress and so expand and fulfil their hopes and aspirations. Our inspiring, enriched curriculum promotes a thirst for knowledge and develops wisdom.

Learning to Love - Loving to Learn…

Leaders including Governors have mapped a curriculum that is ambitious and designed to give all pupils, particularly disadvantaged pupils and including pupils with SEND, the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life. This has been achieved through the implementation of the revised the national curriculum securing breadth and ambition. The curriculum has been designed using the expertise of professional bodies including the Geographical, Historical and PSHE Associations as examples.

Attainment of PPG remains a key priority for the school with the national gap closed, but an in school gap evident. The school is committed to ensuring all children access Quality First Teaching with appropriate and timely interventions rotated so that children do not miss any aspect of the curriculum. The school is constantly looking to expose the children to quality experiences which immerse them in opportunities beyond their socioeconomic background. Trips, visits, workshops are all planned intrinsically within the curriculum. We have developed a rich and varied menu of enhancement opportunities to engage learning and recognise individuality.

The curriculum enables all stakeholders to build strong relationships, celebrate diversity, encourage respect and build a sense of community. It provides and acknowledges success for all children, in all aspects of their development and it recognises, encourages and celebrates all types of talent. The school’s curriculum is coherently planned by Leaders and SLT with input from middle leaders who have been provided with time, expertise and CPD to sequence learning which cumulatively develops knowledge and skills for future learning. Subjects are taught discreetly and have been carefully mapped to secure progression of skills, knowledge and application through school.

The curriculum is successfully adapted, designed or developed to be ambitious and meet the needs of pupils with SEND, developing their knowledge, skills and abilities to apply what they know and can do with increasing fluency and independence. Our Golden Rules, PSHE lessons and assemblies promote positive attitudes which reflect the values and skills needed for future learning and success.

Article 28 (right to education) Every child has the right to an education. Primary education must be free and different forms of secondary education must be available to every child. Discipline in schools must respect children’s dignity and their rights. Richer countries must help poorer countries achieve this. Article 29 (goals of education) Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment.
